Road to Minecraft 1.0, Day 24: Infdev 2010-04-15
Monday.
Real date: 22 September 2025
Time machine: 19 April 2010
Recorded playtime: 11 hours, 29 minutes
I did not play this version for very long... it is pretty much unplayable except on peaceful.
I dragged my feet on this version a bit, but that's okay because another update doesn't come out until tomorrow. This is still the current version. Notch finally readded mob spawning, and he really screwed it up. He even admitted himself in his blog post announcing this version that there were way too many monsters spawning.

Less than 20 seconds after loading my save, a skeleton spawned in broad daylight. |
They seem to just spawn wherever and whenever they feel like it. I tried lighting up some nearby dark areas, but that didn't seem to change anything. It's a mess.

I don't know why these pigs immediately died. Oh, and skin support is back. Nice. |
Here's a video of some combat:
You can see and hear that the mob code is identical to what we had in Indev 2010-02-23. Hostile mobs even all still use the generic player hurt sound.
Back to the bit about mobs just spawning anywhere they feel like it... Here is a video of skeleton who decided to spawn in my very well-lit staircase for some unknown reason.
Next, some assorted screenshots of mobs being generally absurd.

Four skeletons popping out of nowhere to ruin my day together. |

A ridiculous quantity of mobs, both passive and hostile, walking around aimlessly. |

Ditto. |

These sheep spawned on my roof. |
As you can see, the mob code is atrocious. I suppose he wanted to get his released so he could get feedback on mob behavior and spawnrates before adjusting everything to be what it would be throughout the alpha and beta phases of development.
I did take a moment to get some porkchops since they are a far superior food source than bread:
...but that's really the only "progress" I made today. I'll play more once mobs are fixed. This is too crazy right now.
Thank you, and have a very safe and productive day.
